I received a piece of election mail today, the first of the season. It was from Charles F. Luce, an incumbent Wilkes-Barre Area School Board Director. In it he points out that he received the Republican nomination but lost the Democratic nod by 12 votes. He points out that he is "still a Democrat but on the Republican ballot."
And that's all it said!
The school board was envisioned as a non-partisan position. That's why the members are not paid and the candidates are allowed to cross file for election.
None of the issues facing our schools were addressed. Not even the usual I did this, that and the other and want to do better in the future.
Vote for me because I'm a Democrat, pretty lame.

SADLY, MANY CANDIDATES IN OUR AREA, REGARDLESS OF THE OFFICE THEY SEEK, RARELY CAMPAIGN ON TANGIBLES. HIS HOLINESS HAS FRIENDS AND RELATIVES FROM OUT OF STATE AND THEY CANNOT BELIEVE THE LAME WAY THAT OUR LOCAL CAMPAIGNS ARE CONDUCTED. MOST OF THESE ELECTED OFFICE HOLDERS FROM OUR AREA COULD NOT GET ELECTED DOG CATCHER IN ANOTHER PART OF OUR STATE/COUNTRY. AS BRUCE HORNSBY PUT IT SO WELL YEARS AGO, "THAT'S JUST THE WAY IT IS."
Thanks for the press about my race for mayor in Sugar Notch. I might have beaten the bad man if a crusader councilman didn't try to win with a write-in campaign. It caused us both to lose. The mayor who resigned in disgrace won with 76 votes, then the councilman with 68 and me, the Green Party candidate, Mario Fiorucci, with 57. History has eluded us again.
