The federal trial of Lozano v. City of Hazleton begins Monday in the U.S. Middle District Court in Scranton. Senor Lou Barletta and his allies including Judicial Watch will be defending the Illegal Immigration Relief Act against an odd assortment of groups including the ACLU and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The CV has a rundown of some of the players involved. Opponents of Hazleton’s controversial Illegal Immigration Relief Act will stage a rally Sunday and another at the courthouse at 3 p.m. Monday.
To me the question comes down to Article I, sec. 8 of the US Constitution: The Congress shall have power...To establish a uniform rule of naturalization.
Can a political subdivision of a state supersede the authority of the Congress?

When Congress isn't doing anything about illegal immigration in a subdivision of a state (or what they have proposed to do isn't working), why shouldn't that subdivision be able to go further to protect their citizens? There certainly aren't enough ICE agents to go around. We'll see what happens in this trial as to the answer to that question, but whether it's a fair answer or not, I don't know. Munley seems a bit one-sided in his rulings, but not all. We'll see.
Tara, what do you want protection from? People trying to provide for their families? For criminals who do harm to others, we already have laws. We don't need to pursue or harass people who are abiding peacefully.
Mayor lou is going after the people who help rent to and hire illegals, They are the true criminals becuase they are encouraging more illegal immigatraion, taking away jobs from from legal people of all races and exploiting the illegal citizens. i bet the apartments are over crowded and the people are underpaid, if all the illegals left hazleton, the legals (white and Hispanic would get hire paying jobs.
