This is a guest post from Jonathan Tallman who ran for delegate to the GOP convention.
Dear Gort:
The long election cycle is over. After nearly two years of campaigning, the American people have begun to usher in a new president. In American politics, this is typically a time of great jubilation for both Republicans and Democrats. However, over the past couple of elections, I cannot help but notice that dirty politics remains intact even after the American people have spoken. There is no room for this in our politics.
I supported Senator John McCain’s campaign. Although I am obviously upset the results of the election were not in my candidate’s favor, I fully stand behind President-Elect Barack Obama. As a nation, we must remember the power of the people’s voice. We may not always agree on the choice, but I would ask that all would join me in congratulating our new president for a well-fought campaign and a historic victory.
In America, we should always remember to respect the views and opinions of others no matter how much they differ from our own. I ask that we begin to heal the partisan wounds and we move forward to have a worthwhile debate on the issues and remember one thing: we are all patriotic citizens of this great nation and we all want what’s best for our country.
Congratulations President-Elect Obama. Come January 20, 2009 at 12:00 PM, he will be my and your president, and we can all be jubilant for the fact that democracy is still alive and well in our thriving nation.
Sincerely,
Jonathan T. Tallman

Classy. Very classy. I was very impressed with Sen. McCain's very gracious concession speech.
Jonathan,
Respecting views and opinions does not mean there cannot be debate or opposing views. This nation was founded on great debate, discussion, dissention, and war.
I wholeheartedly agree about the Partisan comments but isn't that exactly what I am reading when I see that the Republicans "fucked" up the government.
Since Barack was born in Hawaii why didn't we elect an American to be President? Why is he referred to as an Afro-American? I thought you are who you are based on your birth country. The Irish are called the Irish becuase they are born in Ireland, Italians because they were born in Italy and so on. When we start realizing that we are Americans we won't dance in the street because a person of color won.
This election isn't and never should be about color. Yet everyone is saying we crossed a great divide by electing a person of color. Well folks, get out the color pallete in your computers. White is on that pallete.
When Kennedy was elected they said its about time a Catholic was President. Electing a president isn't about religion.
Its about leadership. Barack didn't defeat anyone. His team did. If you get the opportunity to participate in a campaign like I did you will see that the candidate could never manage the day to day operations.
David Axelrod was his chief strategist but to manage the kind of money he had in his campaign took a big team. Obama had a clever branding strategy put together. That is why Advertising Age picked his campaign as "Marketer of the Year" for 2008.

mcgruff, yah, the irish. The same irish that sold out to the nazis in WW II. The same irish who aided in supporting them in bombing massacres in England and Wales.
The same irish terrorists known as molly maguires who bombed and killed innocent people in the NEPA coal regions.
"Since Barack was born in Hawaii why didn't we elect an American to be President?"
Isn't Hawaii one of the 57 states?
Anon,
You might be talking about the Irish across the pond but you are not talking about the Americans who were born here.
Everyone thinks the Indians in this country, and not from India, the Sioux, the Seminoles, etc. were the inhabitants when we arrived. Actually the Neanderthal, the Homo Erectus, the Nomads from other continents, the bridge in Alaska before the ocean divide are believed to have come from Africa about 1.8 million years ago. The modern day homo sapiens migrated to Europe about 30,000 years ago as CroMagnon.
Most modern humans evolved from Africa about 200,000 years ago. So realistically we all share a common African ancestry. Okay don't believe me look it up for yourself. The modern day Afro-American thinks that they were new to America. Well no...that isn't true.
What I am trying to put forth here is that while slaves came to this country in the 1800's like the Pilgrims came in the 1600's the white people are known as Americans but the people of color are not. Why? There isn't one of us here who wasn't born here except those we let in as immigrants. Even those transcend the evolution line. We are Americans. If we accept Barack's birth certificate then those who voted for him elected an American.
Euphoria will soon give way to reality. Agenda will accede to pragmatic truth. Our nation will return to politics as usual. And we will not have a say because we weren't vigilant in the electoral process.
If you believe this President will end the war I leave you with his own words "When I am President, we will wage the war that has to be won, with a comprehensive strategy with five elements: getting out of Iraq and on to the right battlefield in Afghanistan and Pakistan....The first step must be getting off the wrong battlefield in Iraq, and taking the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. " http://www.barackobama.com/2007/08/01/the_war_we_need_to_win.php
Now correct me if I am wrong. Pakistan said we have to stop the UNMANNED Predator Drone attacks.
So much for our troops coming home to their families. When he tries to exit Iraq in a hurry there will be bloodshed. His first act to change the war will be very very hard. Since he has received the classified briefings and met with the Generals he will exactly know what the body count will be.
And they won't be the Irish terrorists.
Wheeee! A Zionist Chief-of-Staff! Change is in the air!!!
To all of you who voted for Nader, Barr, or any other third party...
Thank you for not falling prey to another scam, which apparently President-elect Obama is nothing but.
Since McCain was born before 1912, when Arizona was admitted to the Union, did he even qualify to be President??? Just asking. Bless you all.
It is amazing that a 18 year old senior in high school could write such a great letter. It is also a shame that supposed adults who write on this blog are so vile and mean spirited. I like a good fight but we have major problems facing our country today, problems that will not be solved by one party or ther other. It is time that all Americans tighten their belt, demand that their government tighten their belt and let's have someone lead us to the greatness that is America.
Watch out for this young man- Johnathan. I know him and worked with him and he is somebody that we will see more of in the future. Best of luck in college, enjoy yourself and when you are ready to run I will be there to assist. WG
Pope,
Keep smoking the pipe but add a little more water.
John Sidney McCain III (born August 29, 1936) is the senior United States Senator from Arizona.
Arizona was the 48th and last of the contiguous states admitted to the Union on February 14, 1912.
That's the trouble with an extreme lefty. There is no values that can't be exceeded. You make not like his politics but at least respect the service he sacrificed for our country. You need to go to Ft. Indiantown Gap cemetary to be reminded that those who rest there gave their all for you.
If you do go please stop by my father's grave. There was nothing more he loved than his country. It was so important that he chose Ft. Indiantown Gap as the resting place.
I'll respect your right to free speech but it also gives me the right to discredit what you say.
Get together and support our new president? I intend to, just like the democrats did in 2000 and 2004.
I just posted a link to a medical news broadcast. I think many of you more fanatical Obama supporters should watch it.
Instead of peace and love, try loyal opposition; look that one up for your next essay young man.
