Fumble and recovery

Lupas pursues Hugo escape charges

Luzerne County District Attorney Dave Lupas continued his efforts to bring escape charges against double homicide suspect Hugo Selenski after a judge threw out the charges on a technicality in February.
Selenski, who is currently awaiting trial in connection with the slayings of pharmacist Michael Kerkowski and Tammy Fassett, escaped from the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in October 2003 by climbing out of a window with a rope made from bedsheets.
But Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas Judge Peter Paul Olszewski Jr. threw out the escape charges, saying prosecutors did not bring Selenski to trial within 365 days, as prescribed by law.

There are rules and the DA didn't follow them. It seems like it's a waist of time to pursue this when the guy is on trial for murder. Unless Lupas doesn't think he will get a conviction in this case either.

Exactly! More taxpayer money being wasted, there goes our taxes down the drain- look at 'em go! Ha.

If the charges weren't pursued within 1 year, then of course they'd be thrown out. Lupas is either mad Olszewski didn't "ignore" his snafu, or he's just grabbing at straws so he can keep his arch-nemesis in jail longer ("gotta find Hugo's kryptonite!!!").

How can we go about getting a new DA? And not just Lupas, I mean the whole "GarbagePail Kids" gang!!!! And, no, Nancy Grace, you can't have the job...

    Dang it, just me again...

I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for commenting again and for also adding me to the NEPA blogs- that's awesome! You are the best!

I don't care if someone has a different opinion than me, that makes it interesting! So I hope I get some more people over to chat about what's happening...

    THANKS AGAIN!

It's typical that you people would make these comments ... you certainly know squat when it comes to the law. Every Order that Judge signed had case numbers for the murders and the escape charges ... maybe the Judge didn't transmit the record to the Superior Court because he doesn't want the embarrassment when his decision gets overturned by the higher court!!

    No anonymous.

Maybe some lousy ass yokel District Attorney needs to stall the Hugo case before his big election for Judge next May!

His daddy is going to raise a $1,000,000 for him to run, only 300,000 more than when he ran for DA and bought that job.

Ok, first anonymous how would you know about case numbers? I think the honorable and ornery Dave Lupas or his coworker or family member or something has graced our presence, be still my heart...

How about a refresher course on the law so another person's case doesn't get fumbled?

And how about a refund of our tax money for the amount that was wasted so far? I need to pay off my student loans!

Oh, I love when someone says "you people," doesn't it sound intelligent? Ha!

If you're going to get nasty, at least fess up and use your real name and don't chicken out and go by "anon".

I think Lupas has definitely met his match in Hugo and I think I know who will win............
