What was the name of that guy who was our biggest ally in Gulf War I? From that place where the almonds and crackers and river come from? King somebody? Had a kid who appeared in an episode of Star Trek: Voyager?
Oh yeh. Hussein. King Hussein of Jordan.
What exactly about having the middle name "Hussein" makes Barack Obama's name "unelectable"? Among the brain-dead voted-twice-for-Dubya-and-I-have-no-regrets crowd, maybe. But I think they would find at least two other reasons (party affiliation and skin color) not to vote for him.
Unelectable middle name? "Milhouse"? "Herbert"? "Danforth"? (I would mention that Gerald Ford's name is actually a complete fabrication created in his youth, but I forget what his birth name actually was, and he was never elected to the Executive Branch, anyway.)
And Harry S Truman didn't have a proper middle name. His middle name was "S". True story.
Political junkies have a tendency to annoint candidates as victors right before they tumble and fall. Teddy Kennedy was considered a high stakes player for President back in the Summer of 79 and imploded almost immediately after he began to believe his own publicity and declared his candidacy. Need I even mention Howard Dean??? Still, you cannot say enough about Obama's appeal; Like Clinton before him, you can sit through one of his speeches and remain interested. The conventional wisdom is that the contest will be Obama vs. Hillary--again, bear with me please, this in the opinion of His Holiness, will be another temptation for Gore to enter the race. With Barak and Hillary duking it out, perhaps the environmental Nostradamus will see himself as the only sensible alternative. It would be a pleasure for His Holiness to see Gore take his rightful place before the Presidential Seal on Inauguration Day as a wounded and tattered Bush has to sit and witness it all. Only the Sainted Richard Nixon and Grover Cleveland before him knew such glory. Bless You All.
Bill, basically you would support whatever Republican candidate that is thrown out, your to partisan. You would never cross party lines, stop pretending
Do you want to run for office to be somebody or do something? In most cases I think it's a mix of both. Kennedy imploded because he couldn't answer the simple question of why do you want to be president. Carter and Reagan had very clear answers to that question when they ran the first time.
In 2000 I might have considered voting for McCain but not now.
The press is in love with Obama and McCain right now but they have a way of building someone up and tearing them down later.
I know it is Dec. 13, 2006, but it must be said, "Although Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama would make great candidates for President, neither one stands a chance of winning." We all know why but no one including myself will speak it.
So you stated the obvious objections. That's a good thing.
What's neat about the upcoming race is we will have choices about political philosophy and backgrounds of the candidates. Hillary is a women, Barrack is black and Mitt is a Mormon. Plus a bunch of white guys.
A woman and a black candidate on the same ticket would expand the electorate significantly. Think of the millions of people who didn't vote in 2004. How many were black and/or single women? Think a female and a skinny black kid from Chicago would get them voting?
The last thing the GOP should want is Clinton/Obama in 08. Why do you think the hard righties are railing against them both so early? They are a potential force that could change the face of the electorate for the next 10 years.
I don't know what has become of the republican party the big deal is going to be his middle name???? It shows desperation 2 years out...

ReplyDeleteI can't help but read part of His Holiness's comment as "another temptation for Gort to enter the race."
ReplyDeleteAnd I screwed up the spelling of the name "Milhous". I admit this of my own free will.
Clinton/Obama in 2008. It would expand the electorate substantially.
