Peters drops 10th CD bid

From GrassrootsPA:

Statement from Joe PetersSept. 12, 2007

“I have decided to end my exploratory efforts for the Republican nomination for the 10th Congressional District seat.

This decision is made even though every important metric along the way led me to conclude that I would win the nomination. From political support to survey research to fundraising ability, my efforts passed every test for a successful candidate.

However, I have concluded the demands of a campaign would cause too much stress on my new business ventures, which have been my main priority for the last few years. As such, I must place family and future first.

I want to thank the people of the 10th District, especially my family and friends who supported me during this process, including countless grassroots Republicans and donors.
In addition to my business interests, I intend to keep my focus on recapturing the 10th Congressional District for the GOP.”

Wow, even with his poll results.

Methinks the national republicans put the hurt on.

Looks like a Meuser (R-Clinton) and Hackett (R-conservative) race to me.

Hey anonymous, I don't get it. What does R-Clinton mean? Other then the fact you're talking about something that's already been settled and you should be embarressed because you're not too bright, what's your point?

Congressman Carney has just been given a sealed and delivered re-election. And after his 2nd term he will be next to impossible to remove.

Joe Peters was very qualifed and well liked among republicans in the 10th. These other two are pretenders.

  5. A three way race among Peters, Hackett and Meuser would have been a good thing for the republican base in the 10th. A blood bath between Hackett and Meuser is only a good thing for the incumbent.

Get used to Congressman Carney. He's not going anywhere.

Danny: I agree. A friend of mine from school now lives in the northeastern corner of the 10th and says Carney is really doing a great job at making the rounds in the rural areas. He sees him in person almost once a week and he is in the paper constantly. I think Meuser and Hackett have an uphill battle.

    Danny,

Have to agree with you on one thing, Carney's NOT going anywhere, except down the drain.

He's a 'dead man walking", a one hit wonder if ever I saw one.

Absent Sherwood's unfortunate "faux pas", Carney would still be cranking out dubious intel reports full time.

As far as a bloodbath, a robust contest for the nomination will be good for the party, it will serve to re-energize the process.

As far as Peters bowing out; "Joe we hardly knew ye", but good luck in pursuing your business and personal matters.

    Let the games begin.

If you hardly knew Joe Peters then you have never been involved in local politics before. In addition to running and being the son of a noted mayor. Joe has been a guest speaker at many republican functions.

    Anon,

You really need to loosen up, it was a play on words, and pertained to this particular race.

I'm very familiar with Peters, and his history.

Breathe in, breathe out, go to your happy place.

  10. Regarding Carney's "listening tour," I can't find anyone who has been at one who felt their voices were heard. He listens and agrees to help whoever speaks. How can Carney look these people in rural areas in the eyes and know he voted for higher taxes on them and eliminating tax credits for their kids. By the time next November comes around all of the people Carney spoke to will realize he hasn't done a thing for them.
Oh, and if I could please plug my new blog "Ignorance is Bliss" http://nepaignorance.blogspot.com/
