“I really don’t think they want this campaign to be about ethics. I don’t think that’s where they want this to go.” -Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta
HAZLETON – Republican congressional candidate Lou Barletta said Wednesday a $65,000 loan being questioned by his political opponents is a personal loan that he is repaying.
If it's a personal loan why has it been reported to the FEC as a campaign debt since 2002? He's still calling it a clerical error.
The DCCC, in its complaint, said the loan made in 2002 during Barletta’s first congressional run was listed on campaign reports 22 times over the last six years. No payment had been made on the loan, the DCCC maintained.
The NRCC has shot back with old questions about Conerstone and money his campaign committee has paid to his nephews.
PA Progressive, AAJ and Pennsyltucky have more.
In other news. After the Corps of Engineers’ denied a permit to build an inflatable dam Rep. Paul Kanjorski is trying to persuade the Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority to appeal the decision. They don't seem to be too enthusiastic. The Authority has 60 days to appeal the decision.
Will beady eyes kanjorski reciprocate and give money to his old pal dan meuser, or don't democrats give money to republicans?
ReplyDeleteHi Gort
ReplyDeleteIf I understand it correctly from what I have read, I haven't spoken with Lou or anyone on Lou's campaign,Lou borrowed the money and loaned it to the campaign to satisfy debts --- this is not uncommon as Hilary just loaned her campaign 5 million dollars, McCain
borrowed money to loan his campaign and John Kerry mortgaged his house did the same. It remains as a debt
on the campaign committee, this way if the candidate raises a surplus of money the campaign can then
reimburse the candidate.
I think the DCCC is just reaching at straws to try and paint the Mayor in a negative light.
Hey, since we're talking money, how about this one???
ReplyDeleteI was told by a reliable source that the managers at Pride were "asked" to donate to Meuser's campaign ..........or else.
Check out the names of the donors and where they work.
Sounds pretty bad to me.
Hang it up Paul. The dam is dead.
ReplyDeleteanon 9:51 do you have that list?

ReplyDeleteOh, come on Gort. Now it's killing me because I don't know what those comments were.
ReplyDeleteAnd Zen, just go to fec.gov and take a look for yourself.
Sorry anon, just some juvenile nonsense.
ReplyDeleteI did the homework on the FEC report in a post on 12/21/07, 21
of Meuser's contributors list Pride Mobility as their employer and have kicked in $29,700.

To quote a Times Tribune article from 2/22, "In 2002 and 2003, the campaign filed the required 10 finance reports, but amended them 15 times, mostly because of suggestions by the commission."
ReplyDeleteThe issue isn't that the candidate loaned himself money. Many candidates do that.
The question at the heart of this is could any one of us go to a bank and say "I'd like $60K. Not sure if or when I'll pay you back."?
The second thing this shows is his lack of fiscal responsibility. First he takes the city of Hazleton down a costly road pursuing a law he knew would get struck down and which would have fairly significant legal costs. Then his campaign has to amend thier reports a number of times because they aren't exactly sure what the rules are.
Is this who we want in Washington taking care of the 11th?
Naah let's keep the guy in washington who takes care of his family and tries to get installed, as Joe Leonardi calls it, the crap catching coupla on a polluted river.
ReplyDeletehey pj how about paul's pac and now carney being fined.
