Four Star General Merrill A. McPeak was my commander when I was assigned to a station near RAF Upper Heyford many moons ago. I will never forget when he told me that we had nuclear weapons ready to go but he never wanted to give that order. He was Bird Colonel then and rose through the ranks to become the Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force. I can't count how many retired Generals and Admirals think that the 0ccupution of Iraq is a bad idea. War is never good.
