Carney on the fence

Congressman Chris Carney said he would cast his vote at the Democratic national convention according to the will of the district. The 10th went overwhelmingly for Hillary but Carney still hasn't committed. The NRCC is saying that Carney is a closet Obama supporter. But the convention isn't until August so he has some time to make up his mind or maybe not because DNC Chairman Howard Dean wants this thing decided before then and I agree with him.

His ace press secretary said "He will base his decision on who will be the best leader to move our country forward and do what is best for the district and Pennsylvania,” Rebecca Gale said. “In the meantime, Congressman Carney feels it’s best to let people vote and the conversation continue.”

In 2006 Carney got 26,300 votes in the primary while the Republican candidates garnered about 59,000. This time around he got 70,824 votes in an uncontested primary while the bitter and expensive Republican primary between Chris Hackett and Dan Meuser produced under 65,000. I'm sure much of the increase can attributed to the Presidential race and the general election turnout will be much higher. In 2006 it was about 210,000.

Carney's hoping Dean puts so much pressure on the other super delegates that they draw this thing to a conclusion and then he doesn't have to go against the will of the people in his district "up front". I listen to WILK all day every day from work and I remember a specific conversation Carney had with Corbett in which he said he would support the candidate who won his district "if they did so in an overwhelming fashion". I guess 70% of the vote is not overwhelming enough for him.

Newsflash: The Clinton's are not going to let go of this thing. It WILL go to the convention.

Final comment: Chris, either honor your word and back Hillary or grow a set of balls and back Barack, it's that simple. You just may have a hard time explaining it to your constituents though.

  2. This is simple to explain. Pelosi hasn't told Carney who to vote for yet.

Carney is an Obama supporter, however, if he comes out now it will derail his re-relection chances.
If he were a Hilliary supporter he would come right out now, with her garnering 70% in his district it is a clear majority.

Unfortunately Carney the Navy man is demonstrating a distinct lack of political courage.

I am set to vote for him, no matter who he supports, but this lack of fortitude is making me reconsider.

ANON 8:11a.m. I agree with your comments. This indecision by him is going to damage his credibilty in the eyes of some of his constituents. You should reconsider and after a short thought realize that Hackett is a dreamer if he thinks he can stop earmarks. Carney is by far the better choice. I just wonder if he can make the tough choices or just wait until someone else does and then climb on board the train. He is definitely not exhibiting leadership material with this indecision. Time will tell how much it will affect him.

Come on...SAT analogy: Carney is to Pelosi as
    A) Hitler is to Reagan
    B) Hackett is to the Flacks
    C) Barletta is to Vincente Fox
    D) All of the above

The correct answer is; the dem nominee has been selected and Carney answers "Actually I was for him/her all the time"
