All the talking heads on TV and in print seem to be saying it will be Joe Biden for the Dems and Tom Ridge for the GOP. I think we may get a surprise. How about Tom Daschle and Sarah Palin?
.
My friends over at the PAWaterCooler.com have been big boosters of Sarah Palin because they think she he a great set of, um, policies.
I can see Biden for the Dems but I would be hard pressed to see Ridge get the GOP nod. That would send the far right into convulsions and would definitely make for a great convention. On this entire abortion issue: it seems to His Holiness that many of the GOP lawmakers play up this issue publicly but privately could give a crap (forgive me Father). Truly, does anyone believe that if John McCain's daughter became pregnant and did not want her baby (for arguments sake, in a world where abortion was illegal) that McCain wouldn't fly her away somewhere to have one?? The same goes for W and his two daughters and on and on and on. I must say that if McCain does choose Ridge it will either be because he has balls or just has an extreme overconfidence that he does not need the far right to win in November (if he chooses Ridge he won't have them, they don't care for McCain as it is). Bless all in Bloggerville.
ReplyDeleteGort, if McCain chooses Palin, it changes the dynamic considerably. All the educated professional working women will have a candidate they can relate too, and lost when Hillary was defeated.
ReplyDeletemark my words, Palin might get McCain elected
The only thing with Palin is that she is under investigation for abuse of power.
ReplyDelete"Alaska Senate leaders want an investigation of whether Gov. Sarah Palin pressured and then fired the public safety commissioner because he wouldn't get rid of a state trooper who had gone through a bitter divorce with Palin's sister."
I don't think McCain will pick Palin or Ridge. I'm betting it will be Romney.
As for Obama I'm firmly believing he is picking Joe Biden.
Tom Ridge is definitely on the stump for McCain, but the one thing that doesn't make any sense to me is why he keeps promoting his political consulting firm (Ridge Global, LLC) while campaigning for the AZ senator. Ridge seems to be more involved with promoting his business more than he is pushing for the VP spot. Either Ridge is with McCain for a trade-off for free promotion of his business in exchange for making McCain look more credible in the eyes of hardcore republicans; or Ridge promoting his consulting firm is diversionary tactic to keep people guessing who McCain will pick as his running mate (i.e., make the guy look like he's not interested in the spot while he already knows he has the job). I agree with his holiness that Ridge will not seal the deal for McCain, although the selection will bring more needed money to the campaign.
ReplyDeleteIf McCain is trying to give the impression that he is a maverick, he would be better off choosing someone other than a GOP loyalist - of course we really know that the decision really isn't McCain's to make alone. McCain's walking a fine line between being a die hard conservative republican with Regan principles and someone who will forsake party loyalty. The problem with this approach is that you can only go so far down the campaign trail without flip-flopping. You can't be a maverick in either party and still have the party's support.
ALTHOUGH I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THE VICE PRESIDENTIAL NOD MATTERS ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE, I WOULD BET TOOTH AND NAIL THAT MR. MCCAIN WILL CHOOSE GOVERNOR ROMNEY. IN ROMNEY HE WILL HAVE EASED THE DOUBTS OF THE CONSERVATIVE WING OF THE PARTY. MR. ROMNEY WITH HIS FISCAL CONSERVATISM AND FAMILY VALUES PLANK WILL ENSURE THE RIGHT WING THAT MR. MCCAIN IS ALRIGHT TO VOTE FOR. I SINCERELY BELIEVE HOWEVER, THAT MR. OBAMA HAS RUN SUCH A JUVENILE CAMPAIGN (HIS PERFORMANCE AT THE CHRISTIAN SEMINAR LAST SATURDAY WAS PASSABLE AT BEST, WHILST MR. MCCAIN SHINED LIKE A DIAMOND) IT SHALL NOT MATTER WHO EITHER CANDIDATE PICKS FOR "VEEP". THIS ELECTION HAD BEEN PENNED BY THE PUNDITS EARLY ON AS "OBAMA'S TO LOSE" NOW I WOULD MOST DEFINITELY PREDICT THAT IT IS "MCCAIN ALL THE WAY". CLASS DISMISSED.
ReplyDeleteWon't be Palin, she's got a ton of baggage that turned up in the past four weeks.
ReplyDeleteMy dark-horse speculation is former HP CEO Carly Fiorina.
i remain on the fence, but if McCain picks Palin, I am voting McCain.
ReplyDeletewanting and investigation and being under investigation are 2 different things. Gov. Palin has stood up to Big Oil and to corrupt republicans in Alaska. She can revive McCain's maverick status and sway many disenchanted Clinton supporters. It would be a smart choice, but the republicans making a smart decision lately is a long shot. Look for him to take the already rejected Romney.
ReplyDeleteGet the diapers ready..
I hope he chooses Rev. Wright or Tony Rezko.
ReplyDeleteRomney would be a mistake because it would give the tall, dark and Irish lad running on the democrat ticket some ammo to work with. Romney is the most liberal governor in the history of the US:
ReplyDeleteRomney flip-flops on abortion. When running for President, he was pro-life. When running for governor in 2002 he was pro-choice. Romney even supported legalization of the "morning-after" abortion pill, RU-486 when governor.
Romney supported Bill Clinton's don't ask, don't tell policy as a "step in the right direction" and "the first of a number of steps" toward homosexuals serving "openly" in the military - no conservative at the time would have supported this initiative.
Romney advocated same sex marriage as governor.
Over 75% of the judicial selections were made were given to liberal judges.
As governor, Romney actively promoted the funding of gay rights propaganda in public schools. I'm sorry but I want my tax dollars to teach my kids math, English, history, and other pertinent topics that would get them a good college education. I don't want my tax dollars wasted on reading crap like "daddy has a roommate" "Heather has two mommies" and "It's OK to be gay" - these moral issues should be left to parents and churches to instill in their children, not the government.
Romney created the ultimate socialist law when he required that every MA resident must obtain health insurance or pay a fine.
In 2005, Romney made the list of the top 10 RINOs in the US. He was number 8. Guess who also made the list: Senator Chafee (who's been known to co-sponsor bills with McCain) was #1. Our own Senator Specter was #3.
Romney is as conservative as Jesse Jackson.
Actaully Jesse Jackson at one time was sincerely pro life
ReplyDeleteI like the GOP trotting out these ads that have Biden badmouthing Obama. I am sure that when Romeny gets the nod, there won't be any such of the same fodder on theat ticket...no sir.
ReplyDeleteProfessor....
ReplyDeleteMr. McCain shone like a diamond because even though he's not a darling of Christian Conservatives he's a Republican and that what Christian Conservatives are inclined to vote for (even though Obama is more spiritual than McCain in some ways)...
Hold that same format at an AFL-CIO or NOW convention and see who shines then...you see professor, it's all about the audience and what's in your wheelhouse. See how that works?
