Chris Doherty for Governor

Borys is reporting that Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty is looking at running running for Governor of Pennsylvania next year. He won both nominations in the primary so with his reelection as Mayor being assured he can concentrate on moving up the ladder.
.

Shooting for the Guv's spot is a bit of a surprise to most of us but Dan Hirschhorn of pa2010.com called it last week. I've sounded some false alarms about Doherty running for Congress in the past but this sounds like the real deal. State Democratic Party Chairman T.J. Rooney confirmed that he is raising money for a run and has been polling statewide.

Other Democrats looking at the race are Tom Knox and Jack Wagner . GOP contenders include Tom Corbett, Jim Gerlach and Pat Meehan.

This is the problem with blogging; you can report anything without having it cleared by an editor. Doherty never ran for congress, but you reported it as a fact; and now he's running for governor. God, I miss newspapers!

  5. On the plus side, Doherty is...
...is an incredibly smart guy (Scranton Prep, Holy Cross)
    ...a devoted family man
    ...very astute politically
...handles critics better than just about any politician I've ever seen
...can raise money at a rate that would make a televangelist blush

    On the negative side...
    ...he can be incredibly stubborn
...does not have a good eye for talent
...isn't well known for his fiscal discipline
...is not widely known outside of NEPA

All told, it could be interesting.

HEY 751AM, GORT NEVER SAID DOHERTY RAN FOR CONGRESS. HE REFERRED TO "FALSE ALARMS" WHICH MEANS THE THING NEVER HAPPENED. AS FAR AS NEWSPAPERS, THEY SELL THEM IN RACKS IN GROCERY STORES, TURKEY HILLS, MALLS AND THEY HAVE THESE BOXES WHERE YOU STICK A COIN IN THE SLOT AND YOU CAN OPEN THE MACHINE UP AND TAKE ONE. OR IF YOU'RE LIKE ME AND GORT AND COAR, YOU'LL TAKE ABOUT 5. ALSO, THERE'S THIS THING CALLED SUBSCRIPTONS WHERE YOU PAY THE NEWSPAPER COMPANY AHEAD AND THEY'LL DELIVER IT TO YOUR DOOR. REALLY. CHECK IT OUT.

  8. I think it would be a good idea IF Doherty ran for governor, it could only focus the FEDs attention more on NEPA !!!

Dougherty the Mayor who pretends to make scranton better. Look around at all the "development" go above the first floor in many of those buildings.. they are empty... He is an elitist who plunged scranton further into debt. decimated the police force, causing a loss of veterans. he disrespects working people in favor of the martini crowds...

Hey Anon 10:27. Why go above the first floor, there are plenty first floor spaces vacant. Just happened to be in Scranton tonight. I could not believe all of the empty buildings. Big cardiology group gone on the corner of Franklin. Lackawanna ave many vacant first floors and above.
Main street looks like a slum in a few spots..
This guy is a joke. A child of privilege with no concept of how his family achieved to give him that privilege. He is just playing because he doesn't know how to work. His legacy will be debt and destruction of Scranton.
And when the medical school falls through... look out...

    Re: Steve Albert

would only ask why you say he doesn't have a good eye for talent? i think he has a solid administration and his campaigns are always top notch.

i agree with the rest of your list, and i would guess doherty has a much better chance at winning the dem primary for governor than many "doomers" imagine. my aunt in chester county asked me about him a couple months ago, and i doubt she can name both our us senators.

  14. It should be interesting if Doherty takes campaign contributions off of Denaples for his governor run. Denaples has given him a lot of money through RAM Consultants, the state media will probably put Denaples' contributions on the front pages of newspapers across the state if Doherty accepts them. Should be interesting !!!

lets face it he lies like a rug he has promised so many jobs to people for their help and screws them then goes to the next he wants to put people to work then he should fufill his obligations a fair mayor at best abd a very bad eye for talent I would bet that less than40% of the people he hires are qualified for the positions he should make thing right!
