There seems to be a couple of dozen people running for Lt. Gov of PA in 2010 from both parties. A few of the Republican hopefuls are hitching their bandwagons to GOP front runner Attorney General Tom Corbett including MSNBC talking head Joe Watkins.
Watkins spouts the usual Republican talking points that the world will end because there is a Democrat in the White House and the deficits began on January 20th of this year. He often gets his facts wrong but that doesn't matter. Why let the facts get in the way of a good opinion.
.
My first college math teacher, Professor Barrett, was fond of saying "fear is a great motivator". I wonder if the was a Republican, because that seems to be at the heart of GOP strategy when it comes to virtually every issue: simply try to get folks afraid of the Democrats (and simply ignore "little details" like having policy alternatives).
ReplyDeleteMr. Albert, apparently you believe that the Republicans are capable of honest and open dialogue. Not gonna happen. The Rovies prefer terror terms such as Death Tax to keep us dummies in line. If God doesn't get ya, the Democrats will.
ReplyDeleteLt. Governor? Is that actually an elected office? LOL
ReplyDeleteTo Anonymous 8:33...I do think some are. I'll take it one step further: party partisans on both sides encourage the "(Democrats)/(Republicans)are Evil" bull$hit because it's easy to control the electorate when when you get them to not even consider the views of the other side. Hell, if done effectively, you don't even need a platform of your own(see Bush/Cheney 2004). This is where the party-line vote comes from.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'll rip the Republicans more on this because they are simply better at it...and it comes more naturally to them. Being "conservative" means to be against change when you think about it, so simply "running against" isn't much of a stretch. This isn't to say that the Democrats don't do this kind of thing, because they do; it's simply harder for them to execute while pushing progressive ideas (which almost always involve varying degrees of change...change that needs to be explained...which takes away from demonizing time).
Talk about running without a platform. Carolee ran on a platform that the former Prothonotary beat her spending 2 hundred thousand dollars so I guess that's a reason to elect her. Thank goodness she doesn't think she has that amount to decorate her office. Let's not forget Walter, his platform was going to be a watchdog. Now that's one hell of a platform for an office that requires specific skills of which he admits he has none. And the county political wheel goes round but it's heading down hill. Best I can say is get the hell out of the way of the runaway train. I know its a train because Petrilla said the train is going forward. She just didn't say it was going forward but down hill.
ReplyDeleteThis was a huge opportunity for Luzerne county republicans to step up and perhaps make a major move forward. But with Carolee and Walter the best they could muster, in 4 years the Dems will be back with all of the row offices. Poor Renita Fennick, how did she allowed this chance to slip by?
ReplyDeleteAt least the Flack & Casey Co. had nothing to do with who was elected. That in itself is a major accomplishment.
