Controller
Walter L. Griffith Jr. (Rep) . . . 28,160 48%
Bob Morgan (Dem) . . . . . . . .21,916 38%
Wil Toole (Ind) . . . . . . . . 8,197 14%
I predicted that Griffith would get 50% of the vote and he came close.
This is good news for bloggers and the taxpayers having Walter and Carolee in the Courthouse kicking ass and taking names
I agree with Mr. Toole that it is pretty sad that most folks don't want to come out to vote in the local and county races that impact them 100's of times more day-to-day than the races for President and other large state and national offices.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what Wil's talking about with his numbers, though. Generally speaking the row offices all got roughly the same number of votes cast. 58,306 for Controller, 58,485 for Prothonotary and 59,047 for Register of Wills.
The lower turnout for Controller is probably due to the fact that of the three candidates, all had some good points but some felt none had enough good points to gain their vote.
I'll tell you that my vote was cast for the least of three evils, and I only voted in that race after I rethought it at the last minute and paged back and said "F**k it, I'll give Griffith a vote, maybe he'll be fun".
I have no illusions that he's qualified to lead a staff of government auditors. But you know, a "qualified" Maryanne Petrilla did nothing in that office but encourage a culture of corruption, either through apathy or stupidity, so I find it hard to think that Walter can be worse.
This county threw (and kept) the connected, political bums out tonight, and for that I'm grateful.
maybe he'll be fun? god that's some dumb shit. NO wonder why we make national news, with backward comments like that.
ReplyDeleteWalter was arrogant in his acceptance. He is really to dim to understand that his win was the culmination of a perfect storm and had nothing to do with his own qualifications, or lack thereof.
ReplyDelete-corruption
-low voter turnout
-Wil Toole's independent run
Are the 3 conditions that allowed him to finally get elected to something. Instead of acknowledging his good fortune he proclaimed his own moral superiority.
Walter really needs to get on his knees and thank Wil Toole, not extol his own virtues.
I give Walter 2 years before a scandal befalls him. The most high and mighty, judgmental individuals fall the hardest and the fastest in politics, Walter, because of past indiscretions, will be no different.
Congratulations Walter. Best of luck cleaning up the mess that has been left for you.
ReplyDelete12:10, another no braain heard from. I wonder if you would want an orderly or nurses's aid perform surgery on you? That's a stupid thought but it goes well with your other stupid thoughts. What the hell is wrong with Luzerne County people? Most don't vote and most who do elect a mechanic to be an auditor and department head. OMG
ReplyDeleteI think he got really lucky that nobody mentioned that he was arrested for soliciting a prostitute and plead guilty to loitering, I'm sure Toole and Morgan knew this and never mentioned it. That's something considering all the mud Griffith dug up, not to mention the lies in his ad's. I would wish you luck Walter but you need much more then that.
ReplyDeleteIf Walter cleans up the county mess like he cleans up his garage, we're in deep dodo.
ReplyDeleteGod we are so screwed. I kind of feel the same as i felt when the idiots of this country voted for Bush for the second time after he shit on our country and our flag.
ReplyDeletef it all.. it really doesn't matter... the fact that walter has won proves nothing is really important. i am done with following politics and i am never voting again... and i will never complain about anything the gov't does, i am going to go out a live life and enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteHeard Walter on Corbett today. He is going to interview the Deputy and the other at will imployees. Is he really that delusional? Does he really think he is qualified to interview the people who have been doing to job to see if they are qualified? Does he think they run the county motor pool? Watch for the white glag flying from his office window, it won't belong beefore it becomes visable.
ReplyDeleteHey i heard they nead a mechanic over at the Road and Bridge department...
ReplyDeleteThis is sad, very very sad. And people are actually saing they are proud they voted for the mechanic to be the Controller. They could have saved a lot of money by filming Deliverance right here in Luzerne County. That creek in Kunkle would have served the purpose and there sure are a lot of one toothers in the voting booths.
ReplyDelete11:15, Now that's funny. Kinda like the caveman and the insurance company, I get it.
