Tom Marino is a Liar

Yesterday afternoon I got this press release from PA 10th CD Republican candidate Tom Marino:

MARINO RESPONDS TO QUESTIONS ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE DOCUMENTS.

Williamsport Pennsylvania- Tom Marino issued the following statement in response to media questions regarding Department of Justice documents.

“I have been in communication with the Department of Justice concerning the release of documents related to my service as United States Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. The Department of Justice General Council has informed me that these documents are confidential and are the property of the Department. The Department of Justice General Council explained that even though I am a former U.S. Attorney, I am bound by security and ethics provisions of federal law associated with my past service. While I am confident that the release of certain documents would end this matter, I understand the sensitive nature of these documents and the important role that the Department of Justice has in keeping us safe. As a former U.S. Attorney, I will abide by the laws of this land and the polices of the Department of Justice, without question.”

The problem is there are no such documents supporting Marino's claim that he received permission in writting when he was a United States Attorney to give a reference to Louis DeNaples a reference when he was applying for a Casino License.

Just after that poped up in my inbox this hit the wire from the AP:

ALLENTOWN — A U.S. Justice Department source says the department has no record that former federal prosecutor Tom Marino received permission to serve as a personal reference for a businessman seeking a state casino license, as the now-Republican candidate for Congress has claimed.

PR from the DCCC:

“The fact that Tom ‘Casino’ Marino has spent the past five months lying about his past only proves how unfit he is to serve Pennsylvanians. These lies have come to define ‘Casino’ Marino’s career and it’s clear that he simply can’t be trusted in any capacity, let alone in Congress.”

And the Carney campaign pounced.

The Associated Press made clear today that Tom Marino received absolutely no permission by the Department of Justice to serve as a reference for a convicted felon. It is now clear that Tom Marino lied about having been authorized to give the reference even as the felon was under investigation by Marino's office. There was no letter showing that he had such authorization. What else is Tom Marino hiding? Tom Marino has abused the public trust at a time when ethics and character matter most."

  1. Now, now. "(H)as no record that former federal prosecutor Tom Marino received permission to serve as a personal reference" is not the same as "received absolutely no permission by the Department of Justice to serve as a reference." Obviously, Marino's involvement involves such a high level of security that these records have been completely expunged from the DoJ files. Perhaps they might be found buried in a landfill somewhere in Lackawanna County.

  2. Just out of curiosity why did he need permission in the first place? Dept policy?

NEPA Conservative, we don't know if he needed permission, but Marino was the one who volunteered that he had received permission.

So, he yells at folks that aren't voting for him, asking what kind of welfare they're on, and now, he's caught in a bald faced lie. I don't think there's anything Casino Marino can do that would ever make me vote for him for anything, not even dogcatcher. Carney all the way!

too bad Carney can't run on his record and resorts to this attack.

This is a great example of why good people don't get involved in this scummy business.

    God help our great nation.

Why Can't Carney Run on his Record. He is so afraid to run on how he voted for the 1.2 trillion dollar health care bill. Or how he supported the 862 billion dollar failed stimulus bill. Or how about how he told veterans that he could not support the Obamacare bill. And then he not only supported it before the anti-abortion language was drafted by the president. But he embraced it 24 hours before the executive order was made. Chris Carney doesn't care if babies are killed with taxpayer dollars. He refused to sign NO Climate Tax Pledge. Time has come to get rid of our massive spending Congressman from Dimock. He is too cozy with Pelosi and Obama. Get rid of his Out of Control Spending Butt.

Can we stop being Naive? Elections aren't won on issues, they are won on emotions. If issues were important Kanjo would have been gone a long time ago and Sherwood would still be in office.
Right now Marino looks bad. After being burned by Don Sherwood who initially denied a wrong doing, folks in the 10th aren't going to put their faith in someone who has perceived to lying to them again.

Chris Carney Lies to veterans when he said "He Wouldn't vote for the ObamaCare Bill". Well lets see he lied about that didn't he. Lets see him answer why he lied to veterans who served our country with dignity and honesty. That's all they asked for was the same. And Chris Carney couldn't do that. HE LIED... OVER AND OVER to the people of the 10th district. And now he is hiding from his voting record.

  9. D.B Echo - you should know that what the Justice Department means when they say "there is no record" - what they are saying is there was no letter - which proves Marino Lied...

secondly he wouldn't have asked for permission because it would have been denied

thirdly to assuming a level of security for non-existent documents relating to a mob boss would only do two things: 1 - prove that the guy is dirty and Marino knew it 2 - prove that you know nothing about the DoJ

to those who chose to hide as "Anonymous" -

the comment about Carney telling vets he couldn't support the health care bill was before changes were made to the bill.. he said he couldn't support it as-is.. once the changes were made he came out in full support...

comments that align Carney with Pelosi are meant to detract from the real issues involving Pennsylvania.. last I checked Pelosi was still in California...

The biggest problem is that Marino is simply more of the same... he's a Neo-Con and radical right extremist... and most republican and independent voters are done with that line of thinking, rhetoric, and hate...
