Mr. Biden, a Scranton native and six-term senator, is the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Mr. Carney is a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reserve and served as a senior terrorism and intelligence adviser at the Pentagon after the Sept. 11 attack.“If you think I know anything about what I’m talking about in national security, I’m telling you this man knows as much as I know about this stuff and he ain’t even there yet,” Mr. Biden said. “This is the real deal.”

TT: Congress must take a stronger role in overseeing the war in Iraq, including recognizing that troops should not remain there indefinitely, Chris Carney told members of the Times-Tribune editorial board on Wednesday.

“The American public has figured out ... the bankruptcy of this Republican philosophy,” he said. “This administration has no vision. It has an ideology; it doesn’t have a plan.

”Whether it’s the war in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina or pedophilia, no one in power has been held accountable, Mr. Biden said.
