Skrep is sacked

23 and counting

SCRANTON – Luzerne County Commissioner Greg Skrepenak has signed a plea agreement to a corruption charge and will resign from office today...Skrepenak signed the plea agreement on Wednesday with the U.S. Attorney’s office.

This confirms what me and other bloggers have known for a few months. He sure sounded like he knew he was going down and refused to testify before the state Juvie Commission on the advice of his attorney. He even skipped yesterday's budget work session not that he has been diligent about showing up for work lately.

Chet Muroski and the rest of out esteemed Luzerne County jurists will get to pick a replacement.

To add to today's fun under the dome District Attorney Jackie Mo is investigating a report of missing money in the Prothontary's office.

Is this the season for glee over Skrep's fall? I've always said that he just didn't know what he was doing as was surrounded by friends who took advantage of him. There was an opinion posted a while back that Skrep didn't take a bribe because they didn't need to offer him one .... he was too stupid to require a bribe. He may not be the dullest tack in the box but I did agree with that statement. I didn't think they had to bribe him because he didn't understand his job and his friends took advantage of him. All I would suggest to people is to gather about them a more Christian attitude and if they want to rejoice, rejoice in the fact that the judges have the opportunity to appoint a capable replacement. Let's keep in mind that more than half of the county's debt came from Skrep and Von during the first administration, 240 million out of 466 million. A smile and celebration when someone, anyone takes a fall and I don't think the Good Lord smiles with you.

Well said, 4:42. There's a good man in there.

There is no way that the immediate past controller of Luzerne County, the immediate past and present county D.A.s, the current mayor of W-B and some members of his administration (didn't a few of them recently bail out like a certain former commissioner) have had one restful nights sleep in the past 10 months knowing all of the digging going on by law enforcement. Same goes for a large number of people in the private sector associated with these individuals. Today's news cannot help matters for them.

I have to agree with Anon 4:42. Think the brains behind the operation was someone else.

It appears as though Gregory Skrepenak is a crook and still refuses to admit it. For all of the wrong he's allegedly done, I think I'll throw a few verbal stones at him this holiday season, and then maybe I'll forgive him in a year or two after he has paid his debt to society by sitting in a cell for a while.

Gort, you miscounted. It's 24. They threw the baby Jesus out of the Courthouse last night.

Mr Skrepenak was over-matched from the get-go, but this failure only partially belongs to him; the other part of the blame goes to the voters of Luzerne County who somehow believed that "football hero" counted as a valid qualification...for anything.

Let me guess: Jackie Musto Carroll said she was "unaware" the money was missing.

6:08 "for all the wrong he is allegedly done" - Do you have more info than the rest of the Valley? We haven't a clue to what he is charged with and I agree with the others and I believe his statement. In his mind he didn't know he was doing wrong. Silly? Stupid? Naive? Absolutely but it has already been decided on this blog that Skrep had no clue.

In the fall of 2005In a class on the history, geography, and politics of PA, i called skrep the most incompetent officla in the whole stae who is probably corupt. the teacher yelled at me for making such a claim based on just hearsay, a hunch, and his lack experince.

Well looks lkie i have been vindicated. (he was a great Prof, he just was not convinced yet, but i am sure he came in into the light when Petrilla and urban teamed up)

So, is there anybody in Luzerne County government who's honest?
