Commander Carney reports for duty

Chris Carney will again spend his summer vacation blowing up things in Afghanistan by remote control. The Iraq war is winding down and hopefully we can start bringing our people home from Afghanistan in 2011 as promised by the President.

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Chris Carney (PA-10) reported today for active duty at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, where he will serve through Aug. 8. One of only four Members of the U.S. House of Representatives currently serving in uniform, Congressman Carney joined the Navy Reserve in 1995. He was promoted to the rank of Commander in 2008.

“Congressman Carney is proud to serve our country in uniform in the Navy Reserve,” said Josh Drobnyk, Congressman Carney’s communications director. “The congressman’s service requires that he report for multiple weeks of Reserve duty every year, a commitment he takes very seriously.”

A former intelligence analyst, Congressman Carney is the only Navy officer and only Member of Congress who serves as a Combat Mission Commander for Predator and Reaper Missions in Afghanistan. He will be involved with the Predator Missions in Afghanistan while on active duty. He was activated for Operations Southern Watch, Nobel Eagle, and Enduring Freedom.

While in uniform, Congressman Carney and his staff will not be able to comment on political matters. All of Congressman Carney's offices in Pennsylvania and Washington, DC will remain open to assist constituents.

Carney always lives up to his military obligations unlike some others.

It warms my heart to see our former President in his military gear. God what a leader he was!!! I miss him a lot.

A Commander in Chief such as Mr. Bush, who had served in the military, is far more apt to conduct his duties as opposed to the current C.I.C. who has none. Mr. Obama's foreign policy has been nothing short of sheer lunacy enrobed in tom foolery. One can only hope, students, that we can hold on until the country and the military can attain a leader who commands respect. Class dismissed!

  3. Now, Gort, that's not really fair. There's almost enough evidence - dental records and the like - to prove George W. Bush at least existed during his time in the military. And he did declare his service on political campaigns when he was supposed to be serving in the National Guard of some state he had never lived in as the equivalent of military service, so he's fine.

You guys - Gort included on this one - are dopes. Bush is not running for anything (partly because he couldn't win) - give it a rest.

Carney continues to play his cards right and the stelth campagin of Tom Marino has not smoke, let alone fire.

I support Chris Carney and I hope he keeps waving the flag since his record and his pitiful constituency service leaves him more vulnerable than it should. Marino has not got any traction yet but there is still time. I am a Democratic activist and I find my fellow Dem activists hate Carney as much or more than my Republican friends.

I suspect that Tom Marino may be sandbagging us on the money. I expect he will have enough to challenge Carney. Marino will win the western end of the District. Carney’s Williamsport Office does more to help Marino than it does Carney. That and the way he tied himself to Jessie Bloom and her stooges. Jessie is the most hated politician in Lycoming country and she has Carney in the palm of her hand. In the rest of the District Uncle Louie has a long reach and he should help in a big way especially in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. It will be like the second coming; even the dead will rise to vote in Lackawanna and Luzerne counties for Casino Marino.

I think this one may be much more of a horse race than anyone gives it credit for. As a Democratic activist I will definitely try to vote for Carney because I am loyal to the party even when I hate the SOB running.
