My Yahoo email was hacked

Sorry about that folks. Yesterday I took a quick glance at the spam filter and saw that there were bunch of Mail Daemon messages which I thought was odd because I hadn't sent any emails over the weekend.

As far as I can tell the worm didn't get a hold of my entire address book but enough of it to annoy many of my friends. Again my apologies. So if you see a subject line from gort42@yahoo.com titled Re:, Re:7, Re:8, etc or Re:Hi! It’s only for you! The most interesting site, Re:I suppose you’ll be delighted after you try it! You know it wasn't sent by me.

I'm sure most of you figured that out and deleted it immediately but if you didn't and clicked on the link there is a possibility that your computer has been infected by a virus. I'm running all the protection software to combat this but it may not be enough so I think I will take the computer to the shop to get a thorough cleaning. Although what I have been reading they may have got a hold of my address book on other computers.

I don't favor the the death penalty for the most part but the bastards who did this deserve a slow, painful death.

Spam attack

In the space of 3 minutes tonight the same spam comment was left on 15 different posts. It is just gibberish so I clicked on it to find the source to find out it was from a Chinese porno site. Now I will have to expend my precious Blogging Energy Units deleting the garbage.

Because of the brief time frame I fear that the the spammers have found an automated way to defeat word verification that is supposed to prevent this kind of bullshit.

Anybody else have this problem?

Off topic

I've been receiving emails over the last few weeks asking me to post about various issues such as cluster bombs, land mines or feeding hungry children. I'm sure that they are all worthy causes and I'm flattered that you think that a post on this sight will further your cause. But it ain't gunna happen. This is a blog about local politics and sometimes some other stuff but I rarely ask my readers to spend money on something. I think I know my audience and like me you are all a bunch of tightwads.

A new twist on this arrived in the inbox today asking me to review the website for some product. They offered me one of their gadgets or a cash payment for doing so but didn't offer the product to take out for a test drive before I write something. Pretty lame.

However, if Apple or some other manufacturer wants to give me a new lap top to try out and review I'm willing to lower my standards.

I will also entertain offers from the Ford Motor Company, Toyota or General Motors.
