The Astros wrapped up the NL pennant last night by beating the Cards 5-1 led by another strong outing by pitcher Roy Oswalt. Both Houston's and Chicago's pitchers have been terrific. We are probably going to see some low scoring games.
From a history standpoint you almost can't get a better matchup. The Astros have never even been to the series in their 43 years of playing ball. But the sentimental choice will be the White Sox who last won it in 1917. They lost to the Dodgers in 1959 and haven't been back since. They had two other appearances that are notable. The 1919 team that lost to the Reds will forever be known as the Black Sox because of a gambler's attempt to fix the outcome. That scandal still affects the game today, just ask Pete Rose. And in 1906 they won their first title by beating the crosstown Cubs.
It should be a great series, I just wish it was on earlier.

VERY HAPPY TO SEE A SERIES THAT IS NOT LIKE WATCHING EVENING RERUNS. WITH THE BOSOX WINNING LAST YEAR AND THE WHITE SOX AND ASTROS UP FOR THE CROWN THIS YEAR IT IS CERTAINLY MUST SEE TV. THE SERIES WAS GETTING MONOTONOUS A FEW SHORT YEARS BACK WHEN ALL ONE SAW WAS BLUE PIN STRIPES GIVING A HIGH FIVE TO ONE ANOTHER IN VICTORY. THEN AGAIN, HIS HOLINESS IS NOT A RABID BASEBALL FAN/SCHOLAR SO IF ANYONE DISAGREES I DECREE A DISPENSATION.
SM, Spoken like a true Yankmee fan. Things didn't work out for the Yanks, so attack the Red Sox. I'm glad the Pope gave you a dispensation before you challenged his infallable ruling. You should work in the White House.
HIS HOLINESS WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE SOX WIN TOO, MY SON; BUT PLEASE, LOWER YOUR LEVEL OF VIOLENT CHATTER.
