Radio Daze

Some of our local scribes have created a spontaneous blogswarm about Steve Corbett's latest bufoonery on WILK. He is pushing a copy cat idea of Rush's Operation Chaos he dubbed Operation Turndown urging people not to vote for Barack Obama because people have said mean things about Hillary Clinton and he claims the "party bosses" are shoving Obama down our throats. I was listening yesterday and he a had a string of callers claiming to be from Los Angeles, Ohio and even Wyoming all saying the same thing. There is no way to know where these people were calling from but it sure sounded like an "AstroTurf campaign” – a fake grass roots effort.

I never thought I'd ever see Big Dan and Mark agree on anything but they both smell a rat.

Big Dan-Operation Bring Back Sean Hannity:

When the Democratic primary came to Pennsylvania, Corbett's show turned into some kind of bizarre "Whoring for Hillary Show" or the "I Hate Obama Show" (take your pick). And that's all it's been ever since...

If you expect me to believe that people from around the country are listening to local-yokel WILK Steve Corbett's show and calling into it...and it's legit (not like some infomercial), I have a bridge to sell you-the 8th Street Bridge in Wyoming. Wyoming, Pa., right next to me...not the state of Wyoming.

Wilkes-Barre Online-Operation Turndown or: Vote white:

So, caller after caller after caller wholeheartedly agreed with him and vowed on a stack of second-hand Korans to never vote for Barack Obama. And Rodham Corbett ate it up. Yeah, man. Nobody…and I mean nobody is going to call Rodham Corbett a racist. Well, that is, despite the odd fact that those he deemed to be unabashed racists were now calling in and cheering him on. In effect, yesterday, quite by accident, he was the leader of the local racists and he seemed to be relishing the role...

Again, caller after caller after caller said if Barack Obama receives the democratic nomination, they will vote for John McCain in November. And after hearing this most surprising of laments for hours and hours on end, Steve Rodham Corbett concluded, “The way I’m hearin’ it, John McCain is the next president of the United States.”

The LuLac Political Letter-OPERATION TURNDOWN

Corbett as well as others contend that Senator Clinton has gotten a bad shake from the party leadership and that she has been treated shabbily. But the only thing wrong with that logic is that Obama was the “outsider” and Clinton was “the insider”. That said, it doesn’t seem to matter to Corbett and his people

Zen-Corbett's Hillary for President show and an old prediction I made

As you can see, I predicted exactly what would happen. call after call from his lsiteners and even the king douche lapper himself have made it clear that they are for anybody but Obama

When you look up the definition of slime in the dictionary, corbett's picture is there.

Other than Rush, this impaired broadcast station has a lot to be desired.

It took me over an hour to get in and once I criticized these Clinton backers for their plans to vote out of spite I was cut off rather quickly. The Hillary-ites drone on and on with Corbett, it's hard for the Obama folks to get a word in.

I doubt that most Clinton backers will jump to McCain other than sore losers and people who are willing to sell their values. Corbett just wants to be like Rush Limbaugh and have some significance.

I mean if you are going to use democracy to spite the candidate that has been chosen by the people, then you shouldn't vote. After Corbett cut me off I listened and he disagreed with me about them voting out of spite, he used the term "revenge". Revenge for what? Clinton is behind in the popular vote, pledged delegates, and currently superdelegates. She has lost most of the primaries and caucuses. If you're voting for revenge you are shaming the right to vote.

The notion that he was chosen by "Insiders" and "party bosses" is ludicrous. Clinton as far back as February was arguing that she was going to win with the super delegates. Clinton was the one who was relying on their support in order to surpass Obama for the nomination. Clinton had the party boss support until she started to slip as a front runner.

There is a good chance that Democrats will maintain the majority in Congress, and probably will strengthen that margin. HOWEVER that does not mean that they will do everything that most Democrats would like. There are many Democrats who break on issues such as the Iraq War and domestic issues. The Blue Dogs are going to still be swing voters. We cannot rest faith in the possibility that a bigger majority in Congress would be able to keep McCain's Administration in line or pursue the policies of the Democratic party.

And I do believe Clinton does have the right to fight this until Obama is declared the nominee. Who am I to tell her to drop out? But once this is over, it is over. Assuming Obama is the nominee we need to unify and do some healing and work together to win back the White House.

That's the way I see it.

LOLOL, I'm no astroturfer, sweetie. I live in Silicon Valley in California and was pleased Corbett used the item I sent him about Obama referring to my 16 yr. Senator, Barbara Boxer, as a "cutie." Just ewww.

With the internet, information can hardly be restricted by locality.

Those calls from Clinton supporters were the real deal.

D.B. Echo said...

Any real Clinton supporters know that keeping this country from suffereing through another four years of Republican mismanagement is more important than the name of the Democrat who is sworn in as President next January.

Corbett, like Limbaugh, lives for ratings. If nobody is listening, who will wantto advertise on his show? If nobody is listening, how long will WILK keep him on the payroll?

So all this is just playing into his scheme to get publicity and stir up interest through controversy. In the blogosphere, I call that autotrolling. I don't fall for those games. Unfortunately, some dittoheads are stupid enough to listen to this crap and say "Yup, he's got a point."

Tony Thomas said...

Well I don't doubt that those calls were real. I did see that someone posted a link to WILK on a blog somewhere. It was a Clinton blog so I assume that a lot of Clinton supporter's snagged it and are calling in. If more enraged Clinton supporters are calling in who would vote for McCain as opposed to Clinton supporters who would not do that or Obama supporters, then it would seem that there is an overwhelming amount.

I suspect that they are in a minority when it comes to her supporters. They are the radical ones who are upset that Clinton didn't get the coronation from the Democratic party that she was expecting. Out of all the candidates she was the one with the biggest name. She was expected to get this a long time ago when this race began. In a lot of states where Obama won or narrowly lost he was polling extremely poorly back in the fall of 2007. It is just how a lot of people thought Romney was going to win, until McCain started to get his campaign into better shape.

Controversy makes for good ratings. If someone says a movie, a book, or a video game will encourage the destruction of our society and the loss of innocence in our youth, a whole lot of people are going to snag it up seeing what it's all about.

Let's just throw this onto the flip side. Say Obama lost or was in Clinton's position right now. Now let's say the Obama people were calling in saying that they won't support Hillary or would vote for McCain. I bet you that Corbett and the majority of the Clintonites who call in would be raining the fires of Hell upon these Obama supporters. They would be calling them misogynists and traitors to the Democratic party for trading their values for spite and revenge.

Unfortunately as d.b. said people are gonna fall for this. Clinton does have a right to fight for the nomination, but once Obama is the nominee she should, as well as the rest of her backers, support the nominee of the Democratic party. The thing is that their policies are rather similar with the differences in being how they want to get them done. Overall they back the same issues. The biggest one I can think of right now that they differ is on foreign policy, and personally I rather Obama's more diplomatic approach as opposed to Clinton's more hawkish stance.

Would she pull a TR (Teddy Roosevelt) and form a third party to run or even give it as an Independent? I doubt it. She is having money issues right now, and I doubt she could raise enough money to run against both Obama and McCain. But she certainly has the right to do so, but I cannot see that happening.

Clinton herself even said that voting for McCain instead of Obama if he were the nominee would be a terrible thing to do.

I believe that if you vote for a candidate to spite your party's nominee or for revenge you should be ashamed. You should be just as ashamed as any of Limbaugh's "Dittoheads" trying to sabotage primaries. That is disgraceful to our right to vote. If you don't like Obama fine. Either don't vote for him, write Clinton in, or support another candidate who shares your views. But do not sell your values and your beliefs to further your sense of revenge or out of spite. If she loses, she lost because he ran the better campaign and he had more supporters. There was no conspiracy and there was no move on "party bosses" to back Obama.

I know that this is long for a comment and perhaps I should just get my own damn blog, but there is another point I want to make.

Corbett claims the media has treated her unfairly. Perhaps in some instances she has been. But so has Obama. He was untreated fairly for Rev. Wright, who's comment were taken out of context. Meanwhile John McCain has not one, but two right-wing pastors in his side backing him who have said things such as "America has a mission from God to destroy Islam" and "The Catholic Church is the great-whore". It seems that only now that the media is starting to hit McCain on those issues.

That's how I see it.

Thanks for visiting Honey Buns. If you're not going to vote for Obama because he called a girl sweetie or cutie maybe you should take this into account:

Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

I hate to think of the consequences if I ever said something like that to my wife.

Same thing happened to me when I called Thursday jedi...
If all those Hillary supporters would be happier with McCain and his 'less pay for the same job' stance on women, be my guest and vote for him in the fall. If McCain wins, don't join Corbett in wringing your hands and decrying what the next 4 years will be like...
Steve obviously frames this to make it seem like it's the biggest thing since sliced bread...and when I called he was real quick tp point out to me that he wasn't voting for McCain, but he just lapped it up when people said they would...What a self serving egomaniac....

Sorry to bring such doom and gloom on the liberal laughfest. I should've waited until tomorrow. I truly cannot wait until this election is over. Who will all the pundits blame then????? Then again, who has had the majority in the house and senate for a while now? Let me make it simple for the mouth breathers, who's popularity rating is so far below Bush's that satan is bitching that somebody stole his ratings?

wow corbett is rallying against the dnc and the super delegates, when a few months ago he was all for them if they were going to overturn the will of the voters and put clinton on top of the ticket. he was all for the supers when he thought the were gonna go hil.
is it sexist just to vote for someone because they are a woman? it seems like this is coming more from pillow talk than genuine democratic ideals.
steve likes to call himself a feminist, i like to call him henpecked.

Everyone needs to put talk radio in perspective. It is entertainment nothing more, sometimes less but nothing more. This is all schtick from Corbett. The proof is on his blog today quote
"Some powerful people even suggested that I head up a national movement with a web site and an address and appearances all over the country. But although an organized and unified voice that Democratic Party bosses ignore is very much needed, I must humbly decline."

He doesn't really care who the nominee is. He isn't ready to do the work to get his "message" out. It is just a ploy to boost himself.
How can we take him seriously if he doesn't take himself serious enough to actually do something.
Corbett is all talk, no action. He wants to leave the heavy lifting up to real men.

I wonder how Corbett would react if Hillary herself were somehow able to get through on the phone and told him to shut the hell up and back the hell down? He'd probably cut her off, chew her out, and hang up on her.

I'll see if I can get Chelsea to convince her mom to call...

d.b., if you cab breathe through your ears maybe you could convince her. lol

turn down WILK, if the had an iota of competition they would all be flipping burgers

WILK - Kevin Lynn an ultra liberal and his coarseness, Nancy Kman a boring liberal, Sue Henry a juvenile behaving moderate (teaches speech at a college, that's laugh), Steve Corbett a communist buddhist, and Cathy Donnelly a substitute hick with her bar room mouth. Real broadcast journalism.
