"I have been thinking about it and strongly assessing the situation." -Dan Meuser
Borys has a rundown of the possible Republican candidates that may take on Congressman Chris Carney (PA-10) next year. They are:
-Malcolm Derk, of Freeburg, a Snyder County commissioner.
- Leonard Modzelesky, of South Abington Township, former operations manager at WNEP-TV.
-Dan Naylor, of Benton Township, a Lackawanna Trail school director and unsuccessful candidate for state representative in 2002.
-Leslie Sheridan, of Towanda in Bradford County, a retired educator.
-Steven Solieri, of Salem Township in Wayne County, an accounting professor at Queens College in New York City.
And Dan Meuser, of Harveys Lake and other places, the former president of Pride Mobility Products, who dropped $2.5 million in an unsuccessful run for the nomination last year. If Meuser decides to run again I hope he learned from his mistakes in the last campaign. The biggest one in my opinion was clearing the field and making it an insider/outsider race with Chris Hackett and framing his campaign as Pride Mobility for Congress. His selling point was the he was the head of very successful company, Pride Mobility, that grew over the years and created some good jobs with the implication he would be able to replicate that throughout the district. That opened him up to answering for everything that Pride had ever done wrong by design or circumstance whether or not he had anything to do with the situation. If he does run again I hope we can look forward to a spirited discussion from Zen, KAR, Sassy, PJ and the rest of our regulars.
Other than Meuser and Derk I don't know much about the other names dropped in the article but our newest local political blogger, NEPArtisan, has taken a look at them.
Naylor has campaign experience and political experience as a School Director at Lackawanna Trail. That’ll help. Modzelesky has media experience, which will help if he’s got the money to do big media buys. Sheridan and Solieri have education backgrounds, which is respectable, but not nearly enough to give them an edge.

It will be interesting to see if the GOP "Leadership" has also learned from the Mesuer debacle. Will they try again to usurp the interests of the voters by anointing their candidate. Many candidates will push for this (Meuser if he runs for sure), but I would suggest that is more of the problem than the solution (for both parties).
It warms my heart to see young Mr. Meuser possibly throwing his hat in the ring once again. It is a safe bet that Mr. Barletta will do the same in the 11th. A little over three years from now we will have Mr. Meuser in the House representing the 10th with Mr. Barletta at his side!! And to top it all off, our Sainted President Santorum sitting in the oval office!!! Once again, the US will have credibility to our neighbors around the world not to mention the fear of God in the eyes of our enemies. Good luck to all three gentlemen!!!
if meuser wants to win he should get a hold of dthat guy that wrote a piece tha apeared on this site last time. he nailed what mesuer did wrong and what he should have done right
meuser? yuk...gak...puke (again)
What about Ted Yale? Heard he's been speaking to county commissioners, anybody know anything?
The great uninformed one, Steve Corbett is trying to talk about the war and wanted to question those who are running or in Kanjo's case who is in office in the 11th. He mentioned contacting Corey O'brien, he just had undeclared, indepted non candidate Mayor Lou on, but nary a mention of the only declared republican candidate Chris Paige. Seems the bloggers are more aware than the "real" muckraking journalist
Meuser is a lost cause. It will be a waste of resources to see him run again and lose. What's the point?
His skeletons will not leave him. Who knows how many more there are. Even his own campaign didn't know.
A lie bec omes the truth and an old lie becomes a huge truth. Meuser shold take what's left of his fortune and enjoy life. The rock heads in NE Pennsylvania are in desperate need of surgery to get their minds opened. Fergedaboutit!
I don't see Carney losing to someone like Meuser. Carney has kept his nose clean and as things heat up in Afghanistan he enjoys a certain about of 'steet cred' because of his military service. Barring a big blunder, the guy will be re-elected regardless of the competition.
The the RCC wants to knock off a Democrat in NEPA they are better off aiming at Paul Kanjorsky, who has more than a few skeletons in his closet. Let's just hope that they can field someone better than "fear the great brown horde" Lou Barletta.
Stephen,
Do you LIVE in either district? Seriously, Kanjo? Kanjo is comfy and knows how to keep his constituents happy. PLUS he's in a more liberal district!
Carney is in a conservative district, and his "military experience" of flying remote control planes will only get him so far.
Depends on who they run against him. If it's Meuser, I think we all know that Carney can chalk up another 'w'
I've just heard from Ted Yale, actually. I know nothing about him, but he'll definitely be on the list. He sounded all in.
"Anonymous"....
Seriously, I live in Kanjorski's district...not that such a thing qualifies or disqualifies anything I have to say. In fact, as I am posting under my own name, I think I automatically get credibility points vs. those who chose not to (for whatever reason).
To your points...
Carney is in a conservative district...hell, I'm reasonably sure that there are more than a few klaverns in Tunkhannock. However Carney is by far and away not a liberal Democrat (despite wishful thinking on the part of GOP talking heads). As the Limbaugh's of this world push "Obama is soft on national defense" crap (like Cheney did today) Carney will only be helped. Now all he has to do is quote the Catholic Church on abortion and he is set. Well that and run against another set of rich Republicans who will spend untold sums of money to eat each other alive in the primary.
Kanjorski isn't as set as you think. His base of support has moved northeast to Scranton, which while it has no functioning Republican Party, still represents a minority of his entire district. As I understand it, he actually LOST in Luzerne County last go-around. He looks good now bashing big financial firms, but that only gets you so far...eventually people are going to ask just what all his financial acumen has actually accomplished...which I predict will be zilch (why? because he actually hasn't accomplished much of anything...other than self-enrichment...and I say this as a registered Democrat). All that's needed to cause Kanjorski trouble is a well funded, centerist (but pro-life) Repbulican...preferably one who doesn't spout "fear the great brown horde" bull$hit". Squeeze Kanjorksi on ethics, abortion and economic issues and see what happens.
Kanjo has an A rating from National Right to Life
The GOP is great at guilt by association...even if Kanjorski is pro-life, he can get knocked for supporting fellow Democrats who are not. Any pictures of Kanjorski next to "baby killer/spawn of Satan" Nancy Pelosi out there?
Kanjo's voting record on pro life is solid. This is a tactic that should be avoided. It will only backfire. Besides the fucking republicans had the house, senate, white house and supreme court for 6 fucking years and what the fuck did any of them do NOTHING. WHY? because it is a wedge issue that no republican wants to go away. So get off it! The republican won't do a fucking thing for it.
Hmm I know Ted Yale and he's a pretty serious and committed guy. He's particularly committed to ending corruption in government.
