The press release

COREY O’BRIEN LAUNCHES CONGRESSIONAL CAMPAIGN WITH 30-HOUR, NON-STOP, NO SLEEP BUS TOUR

Saturday, October 3, 2009 – From the steps of his childhood home, Lackawanna County Commissioner Corey D. O’Brien officially announced Saturday morning that he will be a candidate for the United States Congress (PA-11) in 2010.Immediately following the announcement, Commissioner O’Brien, joined by family members and friends, launched a 2-day, 30-hour, non-stop, no sleep bus tour through PA-11.

The bus tour began in Dunmore, PA and is traveling to a number of neighborhoods, restaurants, companies and other venues in Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Luzerne and Monroe counties.

Commissioner O'Brien plans to focus on his record as a champion of common sense government, fiscal responsibility and ethics reform in the campaign:"For far too long, politicians have been catering to special interests while leaving people in our region to fend for themselves. I'm running for Congress to replace the old-style politics with new-style leadership, by promoting job growth, encouraging health care reform, holding myself to a higher ethical standard and working to strengthen our children’s educational opportunities."Prior to his election as Lackawanna County Commissioner in 2007, Corey O'Brien practiced law and hosted an award winning public affairs television show. He currently resides in Moosic, PA with his wife, Atty. Michelle O'Brien and their two young children.A question and answer session will be held on the bus prior to its departure from Dunmore.

O'Brien has a website up:

Kanjorski is in for all he can handle. O'Brien will work 1000 times as hard as Barletta in terms of reaching out to voters. He will also raise more money than Lou did. Also, Kanjo won't have the DCCC pouring in millions in negative ads to help him.

I'm not fan of Paul Kanjorski, but what precisely qualified Corey O'Brien to be a Congressman? When last I checked, being a one-term County Commissioner isn't exactly resume-packing material. His reference to "record as a ________" is somewhat surprising, as he really doesn't have a record at all.

I agree with Stephen Albert.

It all sounds great, "a champion of common sense government", who isn't.

Fiscal responsibilty, won't cater to special interests; it all sounds great, but words are just words.

Corey, why should I vote for you rather than Paul Kanjorski and throw away all that seniority and key positions on important committees?

As I said previously, I like Corey O'Brien, but the time is not right. Kanjorski has done alot of good things for this area.

Yes, he was on shaky ground morally with Cornerstone; but it was investigated and he was found to have done nothing wrong. And furthermore on that issue, if I was in Congress and could get a grant that directly benefited my family, as long as it was legal, I would do it in a heartbeat. I'm just being honest.

Corey, I like your speech, but when it comes down to it, its all just words and your half term as Lackawanna County Commissioner just doesn't cut it. You may have done some great things but there is alot more to do in Lackawanna County.

It sort of parallels Sarah Palin. Younger, good looking, no real experience.

Kanjorski is not going to be there forever, I say let him go out when he wants.

I'm sorry this post is so long, but I'm very passionate about this issue. Until pork is deemed to be illegal I say keep bringing it Paul.

I wish Corey well, I just think it's a mistake and hopefully it won't hurt his future aspirations.

Corey is acting like a quiter. He can't solve the stadium problem, he went looking for help from Luzerne County who is in financcial trouble, hasn't gotten it so he quits his responsibilities to become a Coongsressman. Sorry, no quiter for me.

Too bad a really experienced lib-dem candidate like B Hussein Obama isn't running with some acorn credentials.

"Too bad a really experienced lib-dem candidate like B Hussein Obama isn't running with some acorn credentials."

Or former governor Sarah "I Quit!" Palin. But wait, I maybe someone thinks that not finishing out her term as the governor of state that has about the same population as NEPA is somehow different.

B Hussein Obama ..... Beautiful, just beautiful. I though all the bigot assholes were down south or on FOX. A little soul searching is in order here because if not now then you can wait till Judgement Day and what a Day it will be. All the phonies and Bible Thumpers will be lined up and shocked that it isn't them doing the judging and they are the ones being judge. What a sweet thought.

Funny how all assume Barletta is the R candidate. Perhaps he will be. Reliable sources also suggest there is a very highly respected woman from Lower Luzerne who may be tapped if Barletta does not decide to proceed. If this woman gets the nod, Kanjo and O'Brien better start sweating as she may be an even more formidable opponent than they can imagine. Stay tuned for the unexpected...

Reliable sources? How fucking reliable are they if you won't name them or the person????? If there is someone out there come out of the fucking closet, if not shut up.

I wonder how many people read these blog sites, & if so, does it really make a difference to them in terms of who they might opt to vote for?

is there any truth to the rumor that when Corey O'Brien was at PSU he was involved in campus politics/student government & used student funds for a trip to Europe? Can someone verify that or provide a web site where it can be proven?
