Kanjo hangs on

“It was an Obama tidal wave and it was very well-organized. There was nothing I could do.”- Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta

Paul Kanjorski won his 13th term in the US House of Representatives by a whisker defeating Mayor Lou by less than 4 points.

The final tally

KANJORSKI, PAUL E. (DEM) 143,246 51.7%

BARLETTA, LOU (REP) 134,077 48.3%

Barletta won 3 of the 5 counties in the district with Kanjo coming up short in his home territory of Luzerne County by about 5000 votes then rolled up big majorities in the Scranton area of Lackawanna County and Monroe came in big for him.

I can't argue with Barletta's assessment and Kanjo did everything he could to ride Obama's coat tails. This ad on the eve of the election shocked the shit out of me. It told me that he was polling behind Obama up here in the Alabama of the north and tied his wagon to the Democratic nominee. Throw in this spot from Hillary and President Clinton's Monday night visit that just might have saved him.

Dan Cheek lists 5 reasons why Barletta lost. "His flaws are many and his upside is almost non-existent. If the Republican Party wants to have a shot in Hell at retaking the US Congress, we need to produce candidates who are electable. In other words, the exact opposite of Mayor Lou Barletta."

McGruff keeps attacking.

Let's see what happens in 2010 when there will not be an Obama tidal wave.

barletta is gutless, now he is making excuses for losing.... once hazelton gets the smack down on the appeal this guys political future is thankfully over.

I side with Dan Cheek on the issue of what the GOP needs to do to win seats back. The leaders of the republican party made the fatal mistake of supporting self-financed RINOs rather than taking the time to rebuild the party by investing in quality candidates. After playing follow the leader in 2004, they have been scrambling for quick-fix solutions that do not and will not ever work. We can learn from the democrats who took 12 years to rebuild their party after Carter's bumbles to the machine that they became in the 1990s and remain to be today. After a very shameful Carter Presidency, democrats had to wear paper bags over their heads to walk around in public (OK, I'm pushing the envelope).

As a republican, I must painfully admit that Bill Clinton successfully reinvented the democratic party. Republican leaders have to admit that it's time to swallow their pride and take lessons from the democrats as to how to restructure the party. Instead, their crucifying their heros.

I'm glad Barletta lost because of that add playing Mexican music. Then he floated the BULLSHIT story that he couldn't do anything about it! BULLSHIT, Lou! I'm sooooooooo glad you lost, you racist!!!

Big Dan said...

I'm SURE Lou couldn't have talked to those people and told them to pull it. He said he wasn't allowed by law to contact them. BULLSHIT, Lou! Liar!!!

You're silence on that add was deafening! Good for you! Now, raise the taxes in Hazleton so you can pay off the millions of dollars on your "Illegal Immigration" law that all experts said would lose!!! You're stuck with the debt now, good for you!!!

Big Dan said...

If Lou won, he would've left the people of Hazleton with all that debt for his "folly" for fame. And he would've said to the taxpayers of Hazleton: "See ya! Too bad!"

Now get crackin' on paying off that debt, Lou! Raise the taxes on the citizens of Hazleton! You idiot!

It's interesting that all of the political experts reside on this blog. So strongly criticizing a candidate, who was willing to get in the ring and fight for what he thought was right, even if you disagree, is unfortunate.

We all benefit from the 1st amendment, but sometimes you should prove that you have a platform (i.e. legitimate knowledge or first hand experience) to speak from, not just be a loud and angry gong.

I hope it at least makes you feel better to denigrate the Mayor. I find him to be a "real" guy - even if I disagree with him on some important issues. I give him high marks for trying to make a difference, even if it is not the approach I would take.

I wasn't a fan of Barletta, but I give him credit for trying to do something about the illegal alien issue - even though I think he went about it wrong. At the same time, I wish he would have won to get Uncle Paul out of DC.

In a perfect world, Barletta could have put out some bond issues, flaunted Hazleton as a Keystone Development site (to offer small businesses 3% sales tax), and restructure the merchantile tax. This would enable growth for small businesses in the city and a decent tax base. From there, the city can raise property taxes to get rid of the riff-raff, like Kingston and Edwardsville have done. Higher property taxes = lower crime and fewer illegal aliens. You might not like the idea of higher property taxes, but take a look at the key towns in this area where property taxes are considered high and the low level of crime and number of illegals.

Okay,

Big Dan, obviously you don't know shit about at a 527. By law they cannot contact a candidate about ads. You want to bring it on. My wife recieved over 18 mailings from every damn PAC that wanted to protect Kanjo's interests. I still have them if you want to see them. If you want to say that Barletta directed efforts read those sent on behalf of the crook and liar Kanjo. He admitted to lying in public. Yet people still put him in office.

Big Dan you call Lou a racist. Agapito Lopez is quoted in the Standard Speakeron November 4, 2008 as saying that Latinos will always vote for a person of color. "Oh definitely, they’ll go toward him," he said. "He’s a more diverse person. (Obama) represents people of color in the country. The Latinos will go for color."

Gort, You are right. I will attack him until I see him gone. He lied plain and simple. To you and me. The people of this district deserve better.

With regards to the money he brought home. He is 4th from the bottom of all legislators, Senate and House, Repbulican and Democrat, last year for bringing money to this district. He is full of crap when he tells all of us different. On the WVIA program January 31, 2008 Chris Carney made fun of him because he brought in 3 times as much as Kanjo in his first term. FACT. If you want to see it contact me. I kept it archived like I did everything else.

Gort was almost right. I wasn't the unofficial opp research guy. I was the offical opposition research person.

If you want facts and figures my harddrive is filled with information that made my head spin.

Gort wanted Lou's schedule. Gort, the reason I didn't give it to you was because Lou had at least 4 people following him with cameras.

The bartender from the Bog in Scranton who played in the band-And the Moneynotes, his friend Lucy Lu, Joe Wi, and the guy at the Scranton Council chambers who we still don't know the name. We didn't want to announce although there were events told to the public. They tried and failed in "gotcha" moments. What they didn't fail at was us knowing most of their identities.

As a matter of fact Joe Wi saw Lou when Lou was with Vince and Joe was having a bite to eat in Scranton. Joe pretended he was videoing. Joe say it wasn't so!.

If Dan Cheek thinks he knows so much run for office. Dan, anyone who knows me knows I have respect for veterans. You r testing that value I have. You don't know crap about what u wrote. Not a single thread is true. Bring it on anytime you think you have substance. All you have is naive opinion. Enjoy your 15 minutes of blog time. After that you will fade away into simple obscurity.

Gort, Dave, Zen, all of you should know that I added you to my site not because you agreed with me. It was because you earned my respect. Our politics may differ at times but our goals seem to be the same. Zen, you and I seem to be on the same page.

Dan Cheek what do you want to accomplish? You are a young man with a naive outlook. You could never unite the Republican party because you never sat down with any one of us and talked. Please respect the word honorable in your discharge. If you want to uphold its meaning start by honoring your fellow man. Give men the respect that we gave to you. Honor comes with responsibility. It means that from the point in your life you recieved it you must uphold it.

Your blind mission meant that you would forsake the people of this district to see yourself right. Kanjo admitted to being a liar. Emanuel was the architect of that effort. "He's lost nearly fifteen pounds since early 2005, when he started his gig as the mastermind of the Democrats' effort to take back the House of Representatives"
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/05/rahm-But what the heck would I know.

They lied then and they lied now. Plain and simple. You can buy Obama on QVC. He is a packaged President, plain and simple. I hope he lives up to everyone's expectations. If he does you will see me carry his torch. If he doesn't I will be vigilant to America.

Here are the questions. Don't google these. Answer them without it. What is Obama know for? What significant legislation did he pass? What economic programs has he introduced as a Senator? What military experience did he bring to the office of President? Keep in mind that he is in charge of the most powerful military in the world. What does he know about education other than he attended Harvard? BTW how many of you reading this can afford to send your children there? I own a business and cannot. What effort has he put forth about alternative energy in the Senate? What job effort has he passed? What transportation initiative is he known for? How has he turned vacant buildings into viable tax properties?

Okay I will take the challenge. http://www.timesleader.com/opinion/letters/31245399.html Barletta record full of success

Gort, thank you for the space. I am not done on this attack. My mission, unlike Dan, is to see someone who is taking money for personal interest removed from office. He will not survive the next election. If it were not for Obama he would not have survived this one.

Ed Mitchell, you are scum. You attacked families and crossed lines that never EVER should have been crossed. Why dont' you tell the public that Gov. Rendell refused to do commercials for you on behalf of Kanjo because you crossed a line and he refused to be a part of it? Oh yes, being a Republican doesn't mean everything is kept secret.

Don't mistake who I am. I got into this because I realized how Kanjorski used his office for not only personal gain but that of his family. Luzerne County has become a cesspool. The taxpayers are funding every abuse of office they could imagine. The 11th
Congressional district is doing the same.

Those may have elected Obama without realizing the consequence of pulling D lever. Be mad at Bush if you want. But don't be so blind in that emotion to forget you live in the 11th district. Last time I checked Bush doesn't even know who we are.

Wow, Dan! you got spunk, man!

I can only honestly say that everything you said about Uncle Paul is right. He certainly represents everything that is bad with the system. It's not all Kandorkski's fault, though: the voters keep electing him.

Dan,

And one more time on this subject. The ACLU and the Puerto Rican Defense and Education Fund as well as others have filed expenses associated with the Hazleton case. NO COURT HAS APPROVED THOSE EXPENSES. There are 50 lawyers and clerks contained in those expenses.

You have to ask this question. Why is the ACLU willing to do these cases pro bono elsewhere but wants to pick on the citizens of Hazleton?

Until all appeals are heard not one dime is owed by the citizens of Hazleton. It is still possible for Hazleton to have Clinton-appointed liberal Judge Munley's decision overturned. From the most recent action in the Third Circuit court it looks like the business licensing law will be allowed thus overturning Munley.

Be careful who you call an idiot. I have this saying. The only person you really know in this world is yourself. So when you are telling people about someone else it really is a reflection of you.

Yeah I'm glad Lou Barletta lost. Not because he bankrupted Hazelton TWICE as mayor. Not because he had no agenda beyond "illegal imigrants", not beacuase he forgot italians one of the biggest offenders of our imigrant policy of all time (With Out Papers!), not becasue he passed pushed to pass a law any city solicitor with half a brain cell knew would be over turned in court (by a CONSERVATIVE judge no less!)

I'm glad Barletta lost because he can not speak in a full sentence. he was awfull in the debates and when he speaks in person. His ads were heavily edited to hide this. Barletta can only say three to four words in a row before taking a major pause to think of the next word.

While idiots who watch Faux News 24/7 and get their opions spoon fed to them by Rush and Hannity may not get that. Anyone who can SPEAK ENGLISH can! Funny Barletta has the vocal skills of a "illegal imigrant"!
