Advance work
A long time ago when I was working on campaigns when my guy/girl was to appear in the area I worked the phones and sent out a letter to help gin up turnout. Today, despite all the the communication tools available most of the statewide candidates fail to get the word out on where they will be.

On top of that, when they do commit to be somewhere, they generally don't show up.
