Gort,

Can't I just shout "Obamacare!" or "Socialism!" in response? I mean how dare you actually deploy logic and reasoning. I want single word slogans that are easy to remember & repeat when I am full of rage at that Kenyan in the Oval office.

Gort,

Was that the same Stephen Foster who wrote "Old Folks at the Home?" More commonly known as "Suwannee River."

Republicans don't HATE taxes. What a bunch of hogwash. Republicans don't support unnecessary taxation. Do we really actually get what we pay for? Are you talking about the fraud, waste, and abuse everyday that each taxpayer pays for. Speaking of military, that is the reason for the federal governments' formation, not social programs. Even FDR made people work during his New Deal, not sit home for 99 weeks and collect unemployment. With all the roads and bridges that need fixing why didn't we hire those people? Obamacare- that's right Gort we need new taxes to pay for 16,000 IRS agents, penalize the near poor, those that aren't at the poverty level for not being able to afford a plan, ohhh I could go on and on.. The irrational argument that if we cover more people it will cost less. I have a bridge I can sell you too. Let's mandate no copay for birth control...it will raise your premium but its worth it to stop Americans from producing Americans...Lets make insurance companies cover college students. But it is okay if you raise the premiums..If you are a large company and don't want to cover your employees anymore you will be fined $2-3,000 while the employee will pay $15,000 for a family..smart move The government is going to tax pharmaceutical companies and medical device firms to pay for the program without any mechanism to prevent those companies from simply raising their prices..genius I say.

What you post really misses is that the last election was a mandate to end government OVERSPENDING, not spending. Pennsylvania is a prime example. We started out selling liquor, but that vice wasn't enough. Then we started the lottery aka gambling but that wasn't enough. Then we approved slot games but that wasnt' enough. Then we brought on table games but all of that wasn't enough MONEY for government. I can't wait til prostitution is on the agenda.

63 cents of every gallon of gas sold in this state goes to taxes yet there are those who say that BIG OIL is making all the profits. BIG GOVERNMENT takes a whole lot more than big oil.

Say what there are no RICH Democrats out there????

I like this one...

#34. Do not swim in clean rivers.

I won't. But I just might if I could effing find a clean river.

Oh, and according to the folks up north a ways, you can scratch the clean water and clean air claims.

And paved roads?

More like...paved over, hastily patched and outright neglected?

RE: MCgruff:
Republicans sure hated paying for health care for the 911 workers...until Jon Stewart embarrassed them into supporting it. WHat a group of unpatriotic sons of bitches.
You're full of bullshit.
Have a nice day.

WOW.... If this doesn't miss the entire point - nothing does. Most of things you list are what government is supposed to do...The rest that is wrong. The careless spending within those programs is also causing the problem. I, personally do not want the government controlling so much. Our country would be in better shape if it didn't meddle. I'm disappointed with this one.

McGruff, what are your solutions for solving fraud, waste and abuse of the system?

To reduce or eliminate taxes is not going to solve the problem. Just as I don't believe increasing taxes will either.

You are always going to have people out there trying to game the system no matter what it is.

Eliminating the duplication of services is a good place to start, if you plan on fixing the system.

The problem is Washington, D.C. is currently being bogged down in a political squabble. Nobody is really looking for solutions. Just pointing the blame at each other. In the mean time our country is going in the toilet.

You may not agree with me but we need more centrists in Congress. We need to get rid of the right wing radicals (tea partier's) and also the left wing radicals and put people in office who truly represent the people who put them there.

Nobody wants to sit down and compromise anymore. That's the main problem with this country.

People on the right all you hear is no new taxes and cut spending.

People on the left all you hear is make the rich pay their fair share.

There has to be a middle ground somewhere. I don't have all the answers, but I do know that our current Congress is broken and if the country's state of affairs doesn't soon change; there may be irreparable damage done.

The argument isn't against taxes it is against how taxation is done. Income taxation is perhaps the worst thing that has ever happened to this country. It puts a disproportionate onus on the middle class. The super rich have shelters and can move their money off shore, the lower classes utilize the most and not only don't pay anything, they get rebates that are subsidized my tax credits financed by the middle class. So when when you make a ludicrous post learn what is really the argument. This country was doing great, expanding and weathering recessions prior to the income tax and it would do well again with out one.. When the income tax was enacted it was only supposed to effect the very top incomes, we see how that worked out... The bigger gov't gets, the more it steals.
