A new day in Washington

I spent part of the afternoon watching the Nancy Pelosi show on cable news today. Congrats to her and all our elected represenatives. I was planning to make it to the festivities but something got in the way. Bob Casey is now our junior Senator even though he doesn't come across as being too thrilled about it. To tell the truth I'm not all that excited either. The change I am excited about is Chris Carney becoming the first Democrat since 1958 to be elected as the represenative from the 10th Congressional District. Let's hope he lasts longer than the last one.

Gort: Thanks for the link about Stanley Prokop. A one termer until WWS Sr ran for the seat. Here's a connection, in the Johnson landslide of 1964, Joe McDade had serious opposition in the person of Jim Haggerty. The race was very close and was not called until the next morning. I think Haggerty lost by 200 or so votes. Haggerty would later become Bob Casey Senior's Law Partner and Chief of Staff when Casey was Governor. Haggerty married a young Scranton lass by the name of Cecilia Lynett who had a college room mate she visited periodically in Baltimore. The room mate later moved to California, had 5 kids, got herself elected to Congress and presumabely has met Mr. Chris Carney already. The room mate's name: Nancy Pelosi.

What a great story. Maybe your next book should be about such anecdotes about NEPA politics. You're like an encyclopedia.

Actually the new book, "Leges Vitae, 26 Rules of Life" is now out in the two barnes and noble and tudor books in kingston. we had tried to get it out before christmas as a stocking stuffer, but the thing did not get finished until dec. 23rd. I'll be having a book signing on sat. feb. 24th at barnes and noble at arena hub plaza. and yes, there are so many political stories of lore that can fill a book. that may be a project for the future. two books that are interesting out there now are L.A. Tarone's "WE WERE ONCE HERE", a mammoth history of Hazleton and former Scranton Mayor David Wezel's compilation of Scranton Mayors of the 20th Century.

You're like an encyclopedia.

I appreciate the compliment but the Yonki clan would appreciate it much more if that trivia bouncing around in my brain could be translated into meaningful bucks.
