Sometime the protesters win

WILKES-BARRE A proposed ordinance that would place requirements on anyone wanting to stage a protest in the city was not on the agenda Thursday night, but council heard a lot of reasons why the proposal should be dropped.

The outcry opposing this stupid law was almost universal. Only fifteen people protested the ordinance yesterday but they spoke for the rest of us. The proposed ordinance required a permit and a $20 fee if 2 or more people wanted to protest something.

And it sounds like the city council heard the "voice of the people."

The important thing here is that this council has not made a decision,” said Councilman Rick Cronauer. “We may feel exactly like you.”

“That’s why it isn’t on the agenda tonight,” Kane said. “If it does come before us again – and that’s a big if – all issues will be resolved.”

I really wanted to show up yesterday, and technically could have, but I didn't think bringing 2 toddlers out in cold weather was a great idea. I'm glad the protesters were able to get the point across.

WHY DO PEOPLE ALWAYS HAVE TO BE PROTESTING!?!?!!! DAMN!!!! IN MY DAY WE KNEW HOW TO BE GOOD AMERICANS; IF WE SAW SOMETHING WE SHOULDN'T HAVE SEEN WE'D BE BLIND; IF WE HEARD SOMETHING OUTLANDISH, WE'D BE DEAF; BEST OF ALL: WE KEPT OUR MOUTHS SHUT AND TRUSTED IN OUR LEADERS TO DO THE RIGHT THING!! WHY DOES EVERY DANGED FOOL HAVE TO GO OUT AND ACT LIKE A COMMIE HIPPIE?!?!!! SHAME ON THE W-B COUNCIL FOR NOT STANDING UP FOR TRUE AMERICAN VALUES BY RESTRICTING THE RIGHT TO PROTESTS THAT LEAD TO INSURRECTION. I THINK ALL THOSE TWIRPS WHO WENT TO THE COUNCIL MEETING SHOULD GO HOME AND RECITE THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE AND BE GRATEFUL THAT THEY LIVE IN A COUNTRY AS GREAT AS MINE!!! OTHERWISE THEY SHOULD NOT CONCERN THEMSELVES WITH W-B BUT SHOULD TAKE A TRIP TO PEKING--OR AT LEAST SAN FRANCISCO!!! I HATE YOU ALL!!!!

Just so we are clear, I removed my hat for the meeting. I think someone from the paper got a photo...

Michelle, I wonder if the three of you would've required a permit under the new law, if it were in effect? Maybe you would require a protest permit wheever you took them!
