Luzerne County judges Mark A Ciavarella and Michael Conahan cop a plea

Confirming what we all have suspected 2 of our Judges are crooks. They are charged with income tax evasion and corruption for taking payments related to the juvenile detention center in Pittston Township. I'll have more later tonight.

U.S. Attorney: Ciavarella, Conahan agree to serve 87 months in prison

Update: Ciavarella, Conahan plead guilty to fraud, income tax charges; will serve 87 months

Are they going to lose all of their benefits such as their pension now?

It's ironic that Judge Ann Lokuta was put through the wringer for unbecoming judicial conduct while this pair was raking in money hand over fist.

I heard rumors years ago that Ciavarella was sending everyone to juvie to inflate the numbers and show a need for a new detention center. I hope all the cronies in this scheme are brought down...

I can't believe I first wrote about these two getting indicted on June 18th of 2008. The wheels of justice do grind slowly.

The question is: Who else.

Powell and his partner
Skep
Vonerheid

What other businesses benefited from these inside dealings. Who did the construction? Who owns the land the building is on?

It disappointing to me as these people are "below" the judges and if history is an indicator of the future, they won't roll down and get anyone else. Very much too bad.

Anon 9:09,

Yes I'm a registered Democrat but if you read any of my posts about Luzerne County over the last few years you will discover that I have opposed almost all our present Democratic office holders. The only Dem that I wholeheartedly supported was former Controller Steve Flood who first raised the red flag about this juvie prison deal. And we know what happened to him.

I am guessing no one would get the reference if someone created a bumper sticker that read, "Don't blame me, I voted for Yeager".

I THINK THE JUVIENILLES AND THEIR FAMILIES, SHOULD TAKE THE DAY OFF SCHOOL AND GO TO THE FEDERAL COURTHOUSE FOR THE PLEA!!! HE WOULD SH** HIS PANTS!!!

Another "anonymous" asked if Dems are proud of this. That's simply a ridiculous question, like asking all Christians if they are proud of Ted Haggard.

Or if Republicans are proud of Sen Larry Craig. It is a betrayal.

These judges betrayed society == Dems, Repugs, etc., but most importantly, those children whose lives we gave them power over.

If you use the "3 strikes you're out" philosophy, those judges would never see the light of a free day again. And their properties completely confiscated and distributed to those kids whom they harmed.

A crook who is a crook is one thing; a crook who poses as a trusted champion of civil rights and who abuses the most innocent in our society are far worse.

In my opinion.
