You're a slave to that machine

Despite the prediction of my friend Dana I still don't have a cell phone. No matter where I'm at people are either talking on one or checking for text messages. More than once I was having a conversation with someone who was distracted by the device and started texting. I asked if they were transcribing our conversation. I think it's rude.

You are wise, Obi Wan. I use a mobile because it works well with my cochlear implants, and other phones are a crapshoot. It's a necessity for me. But I turn it off in church or in places where quiet is or should be the rule. I ignore it when I'm talking to someone.

And if someone starts texting when I'm talking to them, I walk away. If I'm not worth of their full attention for a few moments in a REAL conversation, then they are just robbing me of time I'm never getting back. Life is too short!

Well, you've never done this around me! Truth be told, at the blogfest it was my phone that went off (chinese food marching orders from my wife)...
