The West Wing is back starting with a rerun of the last episode where Congressman Santos wins the Democratic nomination and he picks Leo to be the VP. They have moved it to Sunday nights which stinks since that conflicts with the NFL and baseball game on ESPN. I know the show has departed from reality as of late but it's still entertaining to political junkies that read sites like this. The first few seasons were great because they rarely got wrong the details of how government and politics work. The last 2 seasons they have gone into some sort of alternate universe but I'm hooked. I'm rooting for Arnie Vinnick to win the election.

His Holiness has not viewed the show often because he is usually asleep when it airs on NBC and A & E sometimes misses my radar; but I cannot see, regardless of the election results, how Martin Sheen can remain on the show since all ex-presidents (with the exception of Wilson--at least in the 20th century) leave Washington. I did, however, catch a rerun at the end recently and it had John Goodman being sworn in as President while Marty Sheen was walking out of the oval office--was this Marty dreaming--if not, what was that all about?

PGR,

The episode you are referring to was President Bartlet invoking the 25th Amendment after his daughter had been kidnapped by terrorists and he couldn't think straight. John Goodman's character was the Speaker and next in line because the VP had resigned because of a sex scandal.

From what I have been reading on the fan sites the season is going to be about the campaign and the last episode will be the innauguration of the new president.

Check out the movie "Dave" with Kevin Kline--entertaining political dramedy that leaves the viewer wondering "how would I do as President?" It features some great cameos by real life politicos, including Tip O'Neill and Alan Simpson. All in all a very good Frank Capraesque film.
